Heartwood Holly Arboretum
A Holly Society of America Certified Holly Arboretum and Test Center
Heartwood Loves Hollies

The Heartwood Holly Arboretum spans more than 300 stunning mature holly trees and shrubs -- primarily native American Holly (Ilex opaca), native Winterberry (Ilex verticillata), and native Inkberry (Ilex glabra). A select few nonnative hollies are included.
Our Holly Arboretum is a Holly Society of America Certified Arboretum and Test Center, meeting high standards in plant longevity, educational labeling, and research for hardiness. Heartwood is one of only 18 holly arboretums in the country to share this distinction, along with the U.S. National Arboretum, Longwood Gardens, and other institutions.
Planted by Heartwood Nursery owner Sue Hunter over 30 years ago, the Holly Arboretum today is a beautiful ecological haven for birds feasting on its berries all winter and moths and other pollinators enjoying its flowers in the spring. Read why Sue considers American Holly the crown jewel of horticulture.
