See Contact & Visit Us
We're located in East Hopewell Township, southcentral York County. On Hickory Road, we're across from the township building. Despite a Felton zip code, we're not in Felton Borough. We're closer to Stewartstown.

When do you open and close for the year?
-
Wholesale: We're open 365 days a year.
-
Retail: We're open year round, Monday-Saturday, 9 am-4 pm. Exception: We're closed December 23, 2026 -January 17, 2027.

Do you carry the straight species of native plants?
Yes! Over 95% of the hundreds of native species we propagate and sell are straight species. Their appearance hasn't been genetically manipulated, the way cultivars are. At Heartwood, a plant tag with a name in quotes means the plant is a selection from a naturally occurring population. The name typically reflects a characteristic, such as color or growth habit, or other noteworthy information about that selection. See our plant list.

What sizes of plants do you sell?
It has been proven here at Heartwood that younger plants in smaller containers outperform plants grown in large containers. Planting from smaller containers doesn't offer an "instantscape," but it provides many healthy benefits:

-
Easier and faster root establishment
-
Less stress for the plant to re-establish from the container to the environment
-
Less long-term watering needed due to quick acclimation
-
Cost-effectiveness and ease of customer transport and planting
-

We offer trees and shrubs in 1-3 gallon containers and some 1 quart shrubs. One to 3 gallon containers are what we've planted, and continue to plant, in our display gardens and growing fields throughout the nursery. People are always amazed when they visit Heartwood to see how established our nursery is!

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.

What is your return policy?
Returns must be made within 3 business days from the purchase date. Refunds will not exceed the purchase price of the item being returned.

Can I walk around the property to look at the plantings?
-
Beyond the retail area, we cannot allow customers to walk around the property on their own.
-
We host public events in all seasons, and these often include walk-and-talks around the property. See Events.
-
We offer educational tours for groups of 5-50 people; you're very welcome to contact us to schedule a tour!

Can I bring my dog to the nursery?
No. Although we love dogs, we can't allow customers to bring dogs to the nursery, even if on a leash. Thank you for respecting our need to protect the property and our plant inventory.
