Fall in the Native Forest

Go beyond leaf peeping to deepen your understanding of changes native trees undergo in the fall.

Owner Sue Hunter, native plant horticulture pioneer who founded Heartwood Nursery in 1987, will show you how deciduous and evergreen trees respond to changing day length and temperature in ways not obvious to the naked eye.

You'll learn about trees' seasonal seed dispersal; spring flower buds forming now on dogwoods, redbuds, and other trees; protective bud scales; what lenticel patterns on bark mean; and more.

We'll take our time walking in the nonworking part of the nursery, covering approximately one mile. We love questions, so bring yours.
