Fall in the Native Forest

Owner Sue Hunter, native plant pioneer who founded Heartwood Nursery in 1987, will show how deciduous and evergreen trees respond to changing day length and temperature in ways nearly imperceptible to the naked eye.

Learn about trees' seasonal seed dispersal; spring flower buds forming now on dogwoods and other trees; how protective bud scales function; what lenticel patterns on bark mean; and more.

We'll take our time in the nonworking part of the nursery, walking approximately one mile. We love questions, so bring yours!
